Working Principle
An Adiabatic Air Cooler achieves high-efficiency heat rejection by intelligently switching between two operational modes based on ambient temperatures:
Dry Mode (Cool/Winter Weather): The hot process fluid circulates inside the closed-loop finned tubes. Axial fans draw ambient air directly through the bundle to cool the fluid via standard forced convection, consuming zero water.
Adiabatic Mode (Hot Summer Weather): When the ambient air temperature is too high for effective dry cooling, a brief water supply is activated. Water is either sprayed as a fine mist or trickled onto precooling pads located in front of the tube bundles.
Evaporative Cooling: As the hot air passes through this wet medium, the water evaporates instantly. This evaporation absorbs latent heat from the air, rapidly dropping its temperature (close to the wet-bulb temperature) before it touches the tubes.
Enhanced Heat Transfer: The newly pre-cooled air then passes through the finned tubes, cooling the internal process fluid far more effectively than hot ambient air could.
