Situation

A refrigeration engineering company in Russia, a local professional refrigeration engineering firm with many years of experience, has long provided efficient refrigeration system solutions for food processing, cold chain logistics, chemical industry, dairy, and other sectors. Russia has a vast territory with diverse climatic conditions – some regions experience high summer temperatures, and industrial water costs are rising. While undertaking a large-scale industrial ammonia refrigeration project, the company faced diverse cooling demands and urgently needed reliable, highly adaptable, energy-saving, and water-saving condensing equipment.

Task

As the project general contractor, the customer required the evaporative condensers to meet the following:

  • Different refrigeration units need condensers with different capacities to adapt to normal conditions and large-scale industrial cooling scenarios respectively;

  • Low drift loss, significant water saving to meet local environmental requirements;

  • Full compatibility with the ammonia refrigeration system to ensure safety and reliability;

  • Easy container transport and on-site installation to suit logistics conditions in Russia.

Action

The evaporative condenser manufacturer customized a combined solution of one KEN-2000 counterflow evaporative condenser and one KEN-1200 counterflow evaporative condenser based on the customer's technical requirements, addressing the cooling needs of different refrigeration units:

  • Counterflow Evaporative Condenser: Features counterflow, axial fan, induced draft design, offering strong heat exchange capability, compact structure, and lower power demand, facilitating transport and installation in confined spaces. Under low-load conditions, it can flexibly adjust operating parameters to achieve both water saving and energy efficiency. Compliant with CTI standard coil design, with capacity covering 100-3000KW (R717 nominal).

  • Counterflow Evaporative Condenser: Adopts counterflow heat exchange technology with a compact structure, suitable for medium-scale refrigeration units, reducing operating energy consumption while ensuring efficient heat dissipation. Designed to be compatible with R717 ammonia refrigerant, meeting international safety standards.

  • Full technical support: The manufacturer provided one-stop services from factory commissioning, international logistics, to on-site installation guidance. Equipment was shipped in containers to suit ocean and land logistics conditions in Russia, ensuring on-time project delivery.

Results
  • successfully delivered and commissioned on first attempt;

  • The large capacity design of the KEN-2000 meets the high-load cooling demand of the main refrigeration unit, ensuring stable system operation;

  • The compact structure of the KEN-1200 adapts to medium-scale refrigeration units, and the flexible combination maximizes overall system energy efficiency;

  • The customer gave full recognition to equipment performance and supplier service.

Numerical Core KPI Metrics
  • Total cooling capacity ≥ 3200 KW

  • Comprehensive water saving rate > 40%

  • Dry mode annual operation > 2,000 hours

  • Operating noise < 65 dB

  • Drift loss rate ≤ 0.002%

  • Operation & maintenance cost reduction > 30%

Reusable Takeaways for Promotion & Management
  • Dual-model combination strategy: using different capacity models of the KEN series together flexibly adapts to refrigeration units of various scales, suitable for large multi-unit refrigeration projects.

  • large capacity advantage: meets high-load refrigeration demand, ideal for large food processing plants, cold storage, chemical refrigeration, and other fields.

  • compact advantage: compact structure, easy installation, suitable for medium-scale refrigeration scenarios and retrofit projects with space constraints.

  • Ammonia refrigeration system compatibility, meeting international safety standards, compatible with R717 ammonia refrigerant.

  • Containerized shipping solution, replicable and promotable to overseas markets such as Russia and Eastern Europe.
